Transformer Delivery to Wind Farm Substation

Case Highlights
A new wind farm substation in the thumb of Michigan required the delivery of a 224,000-lb transformer delivered from a nearby rail siding. Buckingham transloaded the transformer from the railcar to a 12-line Goldhofer trailer, then hauled it several miles to the substation. At the substation, we unhooked the truck and used the trailer’s self-propel mode to drive it alongside the foundation pad, where we used the Buckingham Jack & Slide system to slide the transformer over the pad. When it was in place, we rotated it 90° and lowered it into place with a Buckingham Unified Jacking Machine and four 100-ton Jacks.

Client Satisfaction
The client noted the efficiency of Buckingham’s crew and thorough expertise with the equipment. The crew’s attention to detail minimized site disruption while preventing damage to the cargo and keeping the project on schedule.
