Miter Gate Transport for Chickamauga Lock Replacement

Buckingham Heavy Transport’s fleet of Goldhofer SPMT modules played an essential role in advancing the Chickamauga Lock Replacement project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville district and Shimmick Construction Company in Chattanooga, TN. Using our specialized transport equipment, workers successfully moved 14 miter gate components onsite for integration into the new 110’x600’ navigation lock.

Workers loaded the miter gates onto the SPMT modules by crane and used the Goldhofer self-propelled ADD capacity to transport the components through the worksite to the assembly area where they will be welded together for the new lock gates. The new lock will be a significant upgrade, increase capacity from single jumbo barge capacity to accommodation of nine jumbo barges.
