I-476 Bridge Replacement

Case Highlights
Buckingham Heavy Transport positioned an 80′ x 72′ bridge section as part of an Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) project on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The new bridge was constructed on temporary steel abutments adjacent to the existing structure. Following the demolition of the old bridge, our team used 100-ton jacks paired with unified jacking machines to carefully lift the new bridge segment. We then installed X/Y skates and used customized hydraulic push rams to precisely slide the 1.5-million-pound structure into position before lowering it to its designated elevation.

Client Satisfaction
The client chose Buckingham because the engineered solution we presented for moving the bridge was the simplest and most straightforward of the proposals they received. Our heavy transport expertise, combined with our ability to engineer and manufacture custom equipment in-house, enabled us to deliver a safe, effective, and tailored move strategy at a competitive price, completing the project ahead of schedule.
